What is the Sunrise Period?
The Sunrise Period is the opening of registrations for those with trademarks
and recognized brands. Documentation or the trademark or recognized brand will
be required before a name can be registered. This is a safeguard against speculators
and abusive registrations when a new TLD is introduced. See our Sunrise
Period Overview for more detailed information.
What are the fees during the .eu Sunrise Period?
There will be a fee for registration as well as an additional fee during the
Sunrise period. The exact amounts of the fees are not yet determined. However,
the fees will be in Euros. The additional fee during the Sunrise period will
not be returned if you are not awarded the name.
How will I know the status of a .eu domain request made during
the Sunrise Period?
EURid will send an email to the claimant and the registrar stating the
application has been received. The email will also include information about
the status of your request in the queue, the evidentiary documents of the right
to the name and a form that must be completed and submitted with your evidentiary
documents within 40 days. The information must be submitted to the validation
agent, Price Waterhouse Coopers. EURid will also enable a special Whois
for the Sunrise Period detailing each applicant's status. Visit our Sunrise
Period Overview for more information.
Who is the Validation Agent for the .eu Sunrise Period?
Price Waterhouse Coopers will be receiving the claimant's evidentiary documents
of the right to the .eu domain name and a form that must be completed within
40 days of the request. The claimant will be sent an email detailing this information
after their .eu domain name application has been submitted during the Sunrise
Period.
Can I dispute a .eu Sunrise Period decision?
Yes, you may request an Alternative Dispute Resolution. However, if your dispute
is successful, the name will be awarded to the next validated request in the
Sunrise queue, which may not be the person or body disputing the original decision.
May I pre-register a .eu domain name now?
No. There are currently no EURid accredited registrars to pre-register
a .eu domain name. Registrations will be available to qualified candidates with
trademarks during the Sunrise Period in the 4th quarter of 2005. Four months
after the beginning of the Sunrise Period, first come, first served registrations
begin for qualified applicants.
Are there any reserved or blocked .eu domain names?
Yes. Two letter alpha codes representing the current ccTLDs are blocked from
registration at this time (ex. fr.eu is blocked). Geographical and geopolitical
concepts are also blocked from registration. Some names are permanently blocked,
while EURid, the EU or the governments of member states, EEA countries
and candidate countries reserve others for use. A full list is expected to be
available sometime this year. Check here often for updates as they become available.
Can I register directly with EURid?
No. Applicants must register .eu domain names through a EURid accredited
Registrar. EURid is expected to begin the accreditation process of interested
Registrars in May 2005.
