Domain - .JOBS
What is .jobs?
.jobs is a sponsored Top Level Domain (sTLD) designed to promote
employers' recruitment activities. The Society for Human Resource
Management (SHRM), a non-profit membership organization with
more than 500 Chapters in 100 countries, has applied to ICANN
proposing the new sTLD, .jobs. Verisign Naming and Directory
Services will be the registry providing the infrastructure
and technology for .jobs. ICANN has approved the .jobs sTLD
in April 2005. First come, first served registrations for .jobs
domain names will be available on August 19, 2005.
What are the benefits of .jobs?
The benefits of the .jobs sTLD are considerable for both the
job seeker and the employers. A recruitment entity, while recruiting
for their own firm, will have an Internet option that will
be specifically tailored to the end users. The company may
register companyname.jobs to use specifically for their hiring
efforts. The site can include background information about
the firm, all the firm's employment openings in their various
locations and employee benefit information.
For the job seeker, the sTLD .jobs will make exploring career
options much simpler. Instead of foraging through entire websites
of specific firms searching for a 'careers' section, a job
seeker would now be able to go to a recruitment entity's .jobs
website and easily find the employment information.
The .jobs sTLD will bring together recruiters and job seekers
in the accessible and familiar realm of the Internet, which
will benefit both parties.
Who can register a .jobs domain name?
Any recruitment entity that can verify with written proof
that it employs people may register a .jobs domain name once
ICANN approves the .jobs sTLD. Also, a qualified applicant
must abide by the .jobs Use
Policy and the SHRM
Code of Professional Ethics.
